Boycott The Phoenix Suns!
That’s right, I said it…but just for one game. Everyone should stay home on Wednesday night and let the suns play in an empty arena. Why? Because tomorrow night they are wearing their ever-so-clever “Los Suns” jerseys to celebrate Cinco de Mayo protest State Bill 1070. Shame on you, Robert Sarver and David Stern for allowing this monstrosity.

Ladies and Gentlemen, regardless of your political views and whether or not you agree with the highly controversial bill, the Phoenix Suns organization should not bring politics to the hardwood. Period. Politics (except those laden within the NBA itself) simply should not pollute any professional sport. Ball players are paid millions of dollars to perform, amaze spectators, create drama, and infuse excitement and joy into the monotony of everyday life. Sports, much less the NBA playoffs, are a meant to be a getaway, not a passive-aggressive political statement. The last thing fans need is for governmental policy tainting and suffocating the game.
So if the Suns organization wants to make a statement, so should the fans. Not just Suns or Spurs fans; SPORTS fans. No one should go to the game, and no one should watch it. Journalist shouldn’t write about it, TV shouldn’t produce it. People can hear about the score on Thursday through word of mouth, starting with the players, referees and statisticians and work its way out. With Twitter and Facebook, no one will miss a beat. (Might be a little overboard, but it would be awesome.)
Leave politics and sports the way they were meant to be: separated (kind of like church and state)! Individual professional players can support or protest politics, policy, entertainment buzz, or the latest American Idol castaway however they please on their own time; but when the game starts and fans are paying hard-earned money to watch them play, they need to keep it off the court.
I know I won’t be watching. Good thing it’s only Game 2.
